About the Author
Christopher Engel began his art training at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art in Chicago, Illinois. He continued his studies at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California. In New York, while immersed in his Van Gogh studies, he spent several years doing landscape painting in the Botanic Gardens in Brooklyn, New York. He also studied at the Art Students League in New York City for 5 years where he had the special opportunity of studying with the abstract expressionist Richard Pousette Dart. At the Art Students League he also studied printmaking with the highly respected teacher, Roberto Delomonica.
In addition to painting and printmaking Mr. Engel's body of work includes a series of bronzes based on a series of etchings executed at the Sculpture Center in New York.
His latest show (but not necessarily typical of his work) at Hallwalls in Buffalo, New York consisted of large scale images and installations derived from and illustrative of certain economics statistics that he found way out of balance upon reading Kevin Phillips, "The Politics of Rich and Poor".
Mr. Engel has shown his work in New York City, Buffalo and Seattle in the US and has work in collections in the US and in Europe.
Aside from the time spent creating the Van Gogh CD rom Mr. Engel continues to work on his art projects.
While Mr. Engel's early work showed strong influences from Van Gogh his later work does not. But still over the course of time he has continued to revere Van Gogh and his work traveling to Europe to see his work and rereading the Complete Letters.

Mr. Engel feels Van Gogh can be an inspiration and positive influence to anyone in any creative endeavor whether one is an artist or not. Many people dismiss Van Gogh as being depressing or rambling in his letters. But Mr. Engel feels the sincerity and faith Vincent instills in one's self through his words and example make the letters invaluable to any creative person. Vincent's letters are informed by the great writers of his day like Hugo, Dickens, Carlyle, Balzac, Zola and many more which make them a real joy to read.
